The J&K State Dental Council (JKSDC) is the statutory body
constituted as per the provision of section 21 of the Dentists Act, 1948
The state of J&K has been initiating several health initiatives to improve the
health of its people consistent with the national objective of universal health
coverage. Oral health is an important component of overall health and lack of

dental institutions in the state to create awareness and initiate preventive
programmes.
There are quite a few dental colleges in the state and dental
professionals have been taking care of oral health at the district hospitals.
Additionally, jointly with J&K State Dental Council, State Ministry of Health &
M.E has been attempting to improve the deployment of dental healthcare service providers on the basis of the system developed by the
State Dental Council & Indian Dental Association to correct the dentist population ratio for better delivery of services.
